Wynn at the World Championships in new Delhi

Representing Canada in the 0.22 target rifle competitions at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, Wynn Payne trains at the ENSC Biathlon Range in Edmonton. The Biathlon section of Edmonton Nordic Ski club is very proud to assist Wynn with a training venue, while Wynn reciprocates by joining the club and volunteering as an official at our competitions. He is also an unofficial coach to our Head Biathlon Coach, providing insights and contacts in shooting skills from the world of precision target shooting. We are lucky to have this great resource at our range.

Wynn has represented Canada in many previous international competitions. He is currently working with the Edmonton Commonwealth Games bid committee to bring the next Games home, maybe with a shooting range at SSP.

New Biathlon Coach Candidate at tonight’s practice

Tonight is a special night for Biathlon, as we are interviewing a candidate to replace Alan Ball, who is retiring in 2015. Our visiting coach is Glen Rupertus, a three-time Olympian with Biathlon Canada in the 1990’s. A contemporary of Myriam Bedard, the first woman to win two Biathlon gold medals at the Olympics, Glen is also a native Edmontonian. He is visiting us from BC, where he is currently coaching. Come and strut your stuff!

Biathlon: Target Line Renewal

Roger Marchand and I, assisted so far by Alex Brown, Wynn Payne and Joe Mann have worked on this project for the last two Sundays. We have completed one Bay, targets 15-14-13 and so far it looks really good! This tells us that our calculations were good, but more importantly, we’ve figured out a number of short cuts and tricks that will make conversion of the next bay much quicker. We’ve also written up some of this as “user instructions” so that other volunteers can pitch in and help. Contact the Biathlon Coordinators if you can find some time to help in August.

This project is funded by a SISU grant and the Alberta Gaming Commission.
