Volunteers Attack Common Tansy

On Saturday after shooting practice, ENSC volunteers turned out to help control noxious weeds in Strathcona Science Park.  Before we could mow the Range area, we had to remove all of the Common Tansy, a large and attractive weed classed as “invasive” and “noxious” by Alberta Environment. This weed is beginning to spread into the Range and trails from Sun Ridge.

Volunteers pulled the weeds up by the roots and filled six or seven garbage bags full. Thanks to Raymond Vivanco, Lakshmi Puttagunta, Joe Mann, Emma Camicioli, Dave Bennett, and Roger Marchand.

There is more Tansy out there on the trails and we will target it over the  next few weekends.

Volunteers At Work: By the Numbers

August 17, 2014: Dateline: Edmonton. Hot, and sunny, with occasional mosquito storms. but the work went on.

ENSC volunteers, Roger Marchand, Alex Brown and Joe Mann turned out on Sunday to work on the new target line at the Biathlon Range. The work to replace the old roof support system with a new precision, all-metal target and roof support system designed and manufactured by Marchand Enterprises, demands precision and care – a challenge under the August sun. So far, the team has completed 3 bays, with 7 to go. The work would go faster with more folks participating.

Next work bee: Aug. 24, 09:30.
