The First Flakes Loppet was looking like being postponed up until late Saturday, but thanks to the fresh snow, and particularly to the snow farmers who put in many hours last weekend, enough of a base allowed the race to go ahead as scheduled. Almost 100 skiers enjoyed the -5C temperatures and sunny skies.
Edmonton Nordic thanks all our wonderful volunteers who helped make this another successful start to the racing season.
Friday: As of 12:00
- The road in and the Range were both frozen, wet, slushy.
- Tricky to walk and drive on.
- The trails were not quite bare.
- Stadium was bare.
If it snows 2 cm plus before practice
- We will not ski or put mats out until the Range has been rolled
- You will need snow tires to access the parking lot.
- It will still be rock skis only.
If it doesn’t snow much before practice
- You will really need snow tires to access the parking lot.
- Combos will be shuffling with striding poles;
- We will not roll the snow until later.
- We will avoid skiing until the Range has been rolled.
Thanks for your interest in Jackrabbits!
Our program is nearly full. We have a few spots remaining in level 2 (Sunday only) and Levels 3 and 4 (Saturday only).
We are unable to offer more spots unless we have more coaches.
Dear ENSC Members,
We are only 5 1/2 weeks away from hosting the AB Cup #3/4 races on Dec. 20/21/14 weekend. This year the races will be held out at Strathcona Wilderness Centre. We know that this is a busy time of year for many, but we really need our members to volunteer to make this race weekend possible. As you can see by the sign up sheet below, it takes quite a few individuals to run a race of this magnitude. If your family is in town that weekend, please consider sending at least one individual from your family to help out in any way that they can, even if it is for 1 day as opposed to both days. Please see the sign-up sheet below:
Thanks and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Chief of Volunteers
Dear ENSC Members,
Volunteers are being sought to help with snowblowing and snow harvesting at Capilano Park this week. We will blow snow in at Capilano 50th st and the lake loop. We would also like to use some skidoo sleds to harvest snow and move it onto the hills on 50 st. I have worked with the sleds to move snow in the past and it is not as hard as it sounds and can make a fair bit of difference covering up the hills. Moving the snow with sleds takes 6+ people because you need snow blower operators, skidoo driver and 2 or 3 people to spread the snow on the hills. I would estimate that we could do all of the above if we had 3 or 4 people out for 6-8 hours to do the blowing (we have 3 snow blowers so 4 is optimum) and 6 people out another day to do the sled moving for another 4 hour shift.
Please let me know if you are available to assist. This work will begin Tuesday Nov. 18th around 12:30 pm with additional dates later in the week to be announced.
