| Basic Description |
The Select Program is for skiers who are focused on developing good training habits by attending weekly training sessions. Current sport science and Nordic skiing science theory will be used as guiding principles in the development of skiers. |

To perform at the Alberta Cup level; to participate at regional races/Loppets; and to possibly participate at the Western Canadian Championships

- Participate in all Alberta Cup Races with category Top 10 finishes
- Participate in Canadian Birkebeiner and one other regional Loppet
- Category Top 5 at Alberta Cup Races

Basic Winter Equipment Requirements
*Skis need to be fitted to current body weight and height. |

| Athlete Responsibilities |
- Learn good training habits
- Learn how to balance training to stay healthy
- Attend training sessions
- Commitment to follow the provided generalized training program
- Attend recommended competitions
- Contribute to positive team dynamics
- Check coach communications (blog or email) regularly and respond to coach requests for response in a timely manner.
- Study the sport: learn about technique, watch race video
- Ask coach when you are not sure of the technical feedback you have received

| Parent Responsibilities |
- Support child (athlete) so they are able to fulfill their responsibilities to their training and their team
- Check coach communications (blog or email) daily and respond to coach requests for response in a timely manner.

- Where ever possible, try to participate as a volunteer in support of the club’s programs, local events, camps and team trips.

| Coaching/Program Responsibilities |
- Provide a safe and positive training environment at training sessions, camps, and competitions
- Ensure that the team blog (or an equivalent tool) is updated weekly
- Include parents in all athlete communications
- Provide guidance & support to other program coaches as required
- Ensure that all athletes have guidance for their weekly, monthly and seasonal training as is appropriate to their age, stage of athlete development, and commitment to training

| Technique Development |
- Early snow technique-oriented camps
- Technique work throughout season; introduce and practice “chase/follow feedback method”
- Focus: balance & propulsion plus refined coordination and introduction of technique variation to higher speeds and different terrain to maximize velocity
- Continue working with athletes on how to identify good and not-so-good skier technique (video)

3 organized coached sessions/week: plus optional 4th session
- T/R: 6:30-8:00pm (coached)
- Sat: 9:30 to 11:30am (coached)

| Outfitting/Uniform |
Optional: Purchase of a good quality ENSC club jacket designed with cold weather high output activities such as cross country skiing is important to maximizing training sessions. The reasons are for this are improved regulation of body heat and wind block technology to improve comfort of athlete. |
