Why Join Edmonton Nordic Ski Club (ENSC)?

ENSC is a full service ski club offering programs for everyone from 3 to 93+, including instruction for beginners to advanced, recreational events for those who already ski, and a comprehensive racing program for youth to masters. Our members range from families and social skiers to Nordic and Biathlon racers who have competed for Canada at the Junior Worlds, World Cups, Olympics, Paralympics and Special Olympics.

As the largest ski club in the Edmonton region, your ENSC membership dollars will directly support our ski community. Ski trail grooming and ski trail maintenance at Goldbar, Capilano, and Goldstick are all managed by ENSC in partnership with the city of Edmonton. The ENSC Biathlon Range is also managed by ENSC in partnership with Strathcona County. New this season, and in collaboration with the City of Edmonton, ENSC will be making snow at Goldbar, ensuring excellent skiing early and late in the season! All ENSC members have a voice in how these resources are managed. Your membership counts to make our city one of the most skiable and ski friendly destinations in North America.

No Trail Fees to Ski in Edmonton

But the trails don’t maintain themselves. Countless volunteer hours are put into maintenance in the summer, while in the winter ENSC and the City of Edmonton jointly ensure that excellent grooming is possible. But this costs about $70,000 per year! Membership and program dollars, as well as subsidies from the city make this a reality. The job of organizing, hiring, and paying groomers is the responsibility of the Club. With the additional costs of making, spreading, and grooming snow this coming season your support is greatly needed. And the cost of a membership can be more than recovered with the purchase of some ski equipment and/or clothing at one of our sponsors.

What do you get with an ENSC membership?

With your $50 family membership you get:

  • 10% discount on ski equipment and clothing at Track ‘n Trail
  • 10% discount on ski equipment and clothing at Fast Trax Ski Shop
  • Access to ENSC facilities – groomed trails, biathlon range
  • Discounted registration for ENSC programs (such as lessons for all ages, recreational skiing and racing) and events
  • Insurance coverage when participating in ski events
  • Nordic News, trail reports, Ski Swap, and the Nordic ski community
  • You will be supporting continued cross-country skiing in the Winter City of Edmonton!
  • And you will be ensuring a continued high standard of trail maintenance and grooming

Founded in 1978, the Edmonton Nordic Ski Club is now one of Canada’s largest nordic ski clubs with almost 1000 members.

Over the past 20 years, the Edmonton Nordic Ski Club has developed the trail system in Goldbar and Goldstick parks. The two adjoining parks feature 10 kilometres of interconnected, illuminated ski trails ranging from the very easy to the more challenging, and now with snowmaking.

Recreational and competitive skiers enjoy these during the day or evenings, seven days a week. In 2000, with the assistance of the Edmonton Community Lottery Foundation, the club purchased a state of the art Bombardier Grooming Tractor. Along with our heavy duty Skidoos, and the Snow Cat equipped with the most advanced grooming equipment, we maintain these trails and those in the adjoining Capilano Park, providing Edmonton area skiers with some of the best groomed trails in Northern Alberta. Our grooming efforts are supported by the City of Edmonton, Community Services.

Our Programs

ENSC offers a full range of programs including Jackrabbits for beginners, Track Attack for developing youth skiers, Cross Country and Biathlon racing programs for youth and adults, Touring and Loppet programs, and Adult Lessons. We also offer summer programs for youth and adult racers, and summer biathlon training.

In addition, the ENSC develops and grooms trails in Goldbar and Goldstick parks in east Edmonton and has its Biathlon facility in the Strathcona Science Park. In 2015 expect our next major initiative…snow-making, to further enhance the cross-country skiing experience and extend our ski season at the Goldbar trails.

Membership is open to all who enjoy Cross Country Skiing, and there are many volunteer opportunities for those who want to help make our club even better.
