ATG: Adult Training Group (NOT FOR BEGINNER SKIERS)

22-week program (12 weeks in the fall, 10 weeks in the winter) which focuses on technique development for Intermediate Level skiers and combines skill improvement with fitness. Intended for experienced recreational skiers with high fitness levels and body awareness. Join others who wish to advance their skiing ability to the next level. The course will also include dryland training, waxing, and race advice for those who wish to participate in loppets. It will include both skate and classic styles. Technique will vary depending on the snow and weather conditions so both sets of skis will be required by the first on-snow class. This ATG is also a stepping stone for those who wish to pursue the Adult Development/Racing group. This is not for beginner skiers.

CB: Classic Beginner (On snow only)

These programs aim to take students from the beginner level to be able to safely ski easy to intermediate terrain at the student’s level. Students registering for this class should either have never skied before, never had a cross-country ski lesson before, or want to refresh their classic skiing skills at the beginner level. In lessons, students will learn the diagonal stride technique with a focus on five key points: athletic stance, leaning forward from the ankles, hip rotation, quick feet, and actively driving their feet forward, with an overall goal of skiing on one ski at a time. Additionally, students will learn how to double pole, how to get up from a fall, herringbone, side step, as well as slowing down, turning, and stopping on downhills. Aside from technical aspects, students will learn the functional application of the skills they have learnt on adventure skis, and ultimately how to have fun while cross country skiing. All lessons will involve education on proper skiing clothing, equipment, waxing, and other information as the instructor sees fit. IC: Intermediate Classic

These programs aim to improve student’s pre-existing technique with an emphasis of skiing controlled and comfortably at the intermediate level. Students registering for this class should either have successfully completed a beginner classic course, and/or have comfort balancing on skis, and be able to ascend and descend a moderate hill with control. Instructors will review the beginner technique and introduce new techniques which may include step turns, snow plow turns, gliding snow plow, snow plow stop, and others as time permits. Aside from technical aspects, students will learn the functional application of the skills they have learnt on adventure skis, and ultimately how to have fun while cross country skiing. All lessons will involve education on proper skiing clothing, equipment, waxing, and other information as the instructor sees fit. SB: Skate Beginner

MUST HAVE SKATE SKIING EQUIPMENT

These programs aim to take students from the beginner level to be able to safely ski easy to intermediate terrain at the student’s level. Students registering for this class should either have never skied before, have never had a cross-country ski lesson before, or want to refresh their skate skiing skills at the beginner level. In lessons, students will learn the ready position, how to get up from a fall, double poling, free skate, one skate, two skate, as well as uphill and downhill techniques. Aside from technical aspects, students will learn the functional application of the skills they have learnt on adventure skis, and ultimately how to have fun while cross country skiing. All lessons will involve education on proper skiing clothing, equipment, and other information as the instructor sees fit. IS: Intermediate Skate

These programs aim to improve student’s pre-existing technique with an emphasis of skiing controlled and comfortably at the intermediate level. Students registering for this class should either have successfully completed a beginner skate course, and/or be able to perform the free skate and double pole technique, and be able to ascend and descend a moderate hill with control. Instructors will review the beginner technique and introduce new techniques which may include one skate, two skate, offset, marathon/half skate, skate turns, diagonal skate, downhill techniques, and others as time permits. Students will apply the skiing skills they have learnt to practical applications when going for a recreational ski on beginner and intermediate level ski trails. All lessons will involve education on proper skiing clothing, equipment, and other information as the instructor sees fit. These lessons are intended for Jackrabbits’ parents who want to improve their classic skiing skills, while their children are in Jackrabbits’ programs. These programs aim to take students from the beginner level to be able to safely ski easy to intermediate terrain at the student’s level. Students registering for this class should either have never skied before, never had a cross-country ski lesson before, or want to refresh their classic skiing skills at the beginner level. REGISTRATION

A club membership and payment of Nordiq Alberta and Nordiq Canada fees is MANDATORY to take Adult Lessons/Adult Training Group courses.

Skiers will not be allowed to participate in the course if they do not have their membership before the class starts.

A email will be sent to registered participants in the course at least one week prior to the start date.

REFUNDS

Minimum registration requirements are 4 participants for each group.  If the minimum registration is not met prior to the first class, the course will be canceled. In this case a full refund will be given to all participants.

Refunds will only be issued if the course is canceled by ENSC and/or the instructor OR a student is unable to attend the entire course due to injury/illness.

Cancellation and/or rescheduling of individual classes will occur if the temperature without wind chill is below -20ºC.

If a lesson is rescheduled by an instructor individuals who cannot make this rescheduled session will not be refunded (although students availability will be taken into consideration when deciding on the date/time of a makeup session).

The decision of refunds on an individual basis (e.g. injury preventing participation) will be up to the discretion of the Adult Lessons Coordinator.

INSTRUCTORS

All ENSC instructors are club members, and are trained & certified by the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI).

LOCATION

Most courses run out of Gold Bar Park Pavilion, just south of the river and east of 50th Street.  Lessons may take place in and around the Edmonton area and is decided by the instructor.

EQUIPMENT

Students need to have their own equipment. The club does not have any equipment for rent at this time. Students should check with their instructors prior to the lessons to ensure that they have the appropriate equipment.

Daily rentals are available from Totem Outdoor Outfitters and MEC. Totem Outfitters also has a selection of new and used equipment. Specialty XC ski stores include Fast Trax and Track ‘n Trail.

If you are already an ENSC member you can ask for a discount at some of these stores.
