HELP! We need a few more volunteers to help me organize this loppet, doing these jobs: in-person registration, bib distribution, paperwork for timing sheets, timing x 5 people with wrist watches & stop watches & clip boards & pencils, course marshalling, bib pick up at the finish line, pylon pick up after the loppet, potluck picnic prizes, etc.
IF you are willing to help me, please email me before 10:00pm Thursday December 15th:lesparsonsgreen@yahoo.ca to let me know what job you are willing to do. You MUST dress extremely warm for volunteering = huge winter parka & huge winter boots & huge winter hat & warm winter gloves & big clipboards & pencils & extra pencils & paper & stop watches & be ready to have FUN!
WHY? Our Loppet is offered as a race-simulation time-trial for athletes in our region to develop their race preparation routine & system. Our focus is on the "process" of race preparation and not on the "outcome" of loppet results.
WHAT? Our Loppet will be a Skate Technique Loppet, because we do not have enough snow for a classic ski track. This will be a bare-bones loppet, hosted by volunteers, who will provide: in-person registration, race bibs, hand-timing with stop-watches & clip boards, handwritten results, basic trail signage x 2.5km loop, no official results and no prizes for winners...just Potluck Picnic Prizes.
SKIS: This Loppet is a "rock ski" or "old ski" or "warm up ski" event. DO NOT bring your good or new race skis, because there is a realistic chance that rocks, stones or pebbles will cause scratch damage to the base of your good race skis. We will be skiing on a thin layer of snow, so our skis will be exposed to grass, leaves, roots, branches, twigs, canine carp, rocks, etc.Glide wax your skis with Swix CH 6 Blue -6 to -12 celsius glide wax to best glide over snow, frost, ice, branches, twigs, grass & leaves.
List of Things to Bring: rock skis or old skis or warm up skis; $10 exact-change cash-only for late entry fee if you have not pre-registered on www.zone4.ca before 10:00pm Thursday December 15th; a big pan or big container of home-made home-baked goodies for our Potluck Picnic Prizes, insulated waist water bottle belt, sunglasses, a wrist watch to schedule your warm up routine, chocolate milk recovery drink, healthy recovery lunch of proteins & carbohydrates, a couple of large thermoses & three extra mugs to share hot chocolate or hot soup with other skiers during the Potluck Picnic, training journal to record your race evaluation, a change of dry clothing for after the loppet.
