Mar. 3, 2022 Trails/Grooming

We again received light snow through the night (just over 1 cm) and it’s forecast to continue for this morning.  Expect fresh snow on top today.

As of last night’s grooming:

Capilano: Skate lanes groomed.  Classic tracks holding well.  Fast firm conditions under the fresh snow.  Watch for some icy patches, but overall good. The short-cut along the top of the sledding hill on Hardisty Drive is icy and not recommended.  Recommend to take the main two-way trail down the hill to the north and follow the two-way trail along the multi-use bike trail and then climb back up south to Hardisty Drive.

Goldbar:  skate lanes groomed. Good classic tracks in place and select classic tracks re-set.   Some icy spots on the northshore on the sun exposed trails near the detour.
Watch for a new detour on the northshore trail (to by-pass the significant ice flow on the northern part of the trail heading east, the south part of the trail has been made into a 2-way with classic tracks set on both sides of the skate lanes for east and west traffic.

Goldstick:  Skate lanes groomed and holding well.  Classic tracks in place and holding well (shallower and or ice bottomed in places). The trails at the soccer field in Goldstick very windswept with the fresh snow. Fast firm conditions.  Watch for some icy patches, but overall good.  Watch for icy areas on downhill corners and areas that get more snowploughing (downhills/corners), including the creekcrossing area – use caution

Southloop: skier tracked only – no grooming.  Ice on some uphills and downhills, use caution.

Overall, currently the trails continue to ski well and every little bit of fresh snow and the stable winter temperatures is great for the trails.  Expect hard-track conditions with a solid base-layer under the groomed snow, with areas of shallow classic tracks with ice/glazed bottoms.  Icy patches.

Happy trails from your Edmonton Nordic Grooming Team
