Mar. 31/23 Trails/Grooming

We are into our last days of skiing here.  Capilano and Gold Bar were groomed last night.  Expect spring-like conditions  as the day-time temperatures are above freezing.  Icy sections starting to form in particularly sunny/exposed areas – caution advised in these areas.

Expect glazed/icy classic tracks in shaded areas – tracks in sun exposed areas have melted away and the base will not sustain re-setting them.

Recommend timing your ski based on the hourly forecast to make the most of the sweet spot where the trails are not fully frozen but haven’t gotten slushy in the daily cycle.

Select sun exposed areas have melted to the point where there are little snow bridges connecting the trail and in several areas skiers may need to walk a few metres to connect.  Watch for several areas where the groomers have re-routed the trail (top of Capilano) to make use of the nice snow in the shade of the spruce trees.

Skiers continue to report spring conditions and a lot of fun on the trails, however some trails are no longer recommended and no longer groomed.

Gold Bar:  Hadhirgaan, Woodcutters, and Treeline groomed for skate – trails in fair condition. Watch for exposed gravel on the climb up into Woodcutters.

We are no longer able to groom the Northshore or the 2-way Lake Loop – not recommended.

Capilano:  groomed for skate – trails in good condition.

Goldstick:  We are no longer able to groom the Goldstick trails – icy downhills and uphills and several areas where the trail is melted away – not recommended

Happy Trails from your Edmonton Nordic Grooming Team
