Masters
The Masters Training Group is for people with a love of cross-country skiing. Whether you are solely looking to improve your technique or you have set your sights on conquering a Loppet, there is a group for you. This full Fall and Winter program includes dryland and on snow technique and conditioning. Skiers may also choose to have support preparing for races. This program is designed to keep you skiing for life and to connect you to a community of people who love recreating outdoors.
This program will help you maximize your time on snow. Through structured technique development and fitness programming you will improve your confidence and ski ability to be able to take on any trail or event. The program is primarily for skiers with intermediate or above cross country ski technique and fitness. Participants will be able to select a subgroup to fit their goals and abilities. Participants can expect to run, ski stride, and do general strength training during dryland sessions. On-snow sessions may include skiing continuously up to 1.5 hours, with hydration breaks, technique video analysis or intervals.
-
Adults with intermediate or greater skiing experience. Participants will be provided the opportunity to ski both classic and skate technique.
Adults with intermediate or greater level of aerobic fitness (can work towards skiing for up to an hour or more).
-
Participants will be asked to select the session/s they would like to attend each week. Choosing which session you would like to join each week allows continuity to support our coaches in session planning that is specific to the needs of each group throughout all of Fall and Winter. Our goal is to ensure coach/skier ratios are adequate so coaches can give feedback to all members of the group each session.
To ensure that skiers find their appropriate level of challenge we are offering a range of levels within the time slots. You will have the following group options:
1) Technique focus
2) Technique and fitness training: for those who want to improve technique and ski fitness, includes structured intervals.
3) Advanced technique and ski conditioning: For those want to take their ski performance to the next level. Includes intervals and speed work along with fine tuning technical efficiency at race speeds.
Availability of groups each session will depend on how many skiers are signed up for each day/time slot.
If you are not sure if you fit into the Masters Training Group, contact Wietske through adultcrosscountry@edmontonnordic.ca.
